The Geese Season
November 5, 2017
The urgent honking of overhead geese makes a good soundtrack for this season of putting things by. I'm doing the Nanowrimo challenge this November, hoping to put by enough words to cobble together my next novel over the winter. I offer this excerpt from Mary Oliver's poem and an interview with her in lieu of any lengthier opining of my own. The interview is from On Being, Krista Tippet is the interviewer."Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, / the world offers itself to your imagination, / calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting— / over and over announcing your place / in the family of things.” - from "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver
