Westward, Ho!
July 14, 2017
Welcome to the inaugural issue of what I promise will be an intermittent newsletter. If you subscribe, you’ll hear from me about once a month. Sometimes I’ll let you know where I’m reading or where there’s a production of one of my plays. Other times I may recommend a book I’m excited about or perhaps simply share a quotation I’ve come across that I find inspiring. I’ll try to keep it short, in any event.I’ll be on the west coast in August, reading from EARTH AS IT IS at Lopez Bookshop in Lopez Village on August 6 at 5:00 p.m. and at the University Bookstore in Seattle on “the Ave” (4326 University Way, N. E.) at 7:00 p.m. on August 11.
Several of you have asked me if I’ll be in Portland or Chicago or NYC. The short answer is “no,” because book stores generally don’t book authors unless they can be guaranteed a reasonably good turnout. And they are guaranteed a good turnout if the author is famous, which I am not, or has very strong and extensive local ties.
However, if you are part of a book club that would like to read EARTH AS IT IS (or another of my books or plays) I’m happy to attend the session in which you discuss the work—in person if you are in or near Massachusetts or can schedule it in connection with other travel I might be doing—or via Skype. Same goes for if you adopt one of my books in a course.
Drop me a line if you’re interested in scheduling an event.
In the meantime, enjoy your summer!
All best,
Jan
